Scary Dave's House of Horrors

(It's an ironic nickname)

Scary Dave
17 January 1978
By 'day', I work as an Independent Stagehand and AV Technician (Audio, Video, Lighting, and the like) in the Washington, DC area. I provide technical support and assitance for conferences, conventions, live music and theatrical performances. When I'm not doing that, I have been known to hang around and work at The Maryland Renaissance Festival and perform with various Rocky Horror casts.

I love participating in sports like Cycling (I ride an mid-1990's Specialized Allez Sport with a custom red on black paintjob), Snowboarding (Freeride & Backcountry; I ride a 2006 Ride Havoc 156, Regular stance with K2 V8 bindings and K2 Fusion boots), & Snowskating (I ride a 2006 Burton Junkyard).

I listen to styles of music like Hardcore, Metalcore, Post-Punk, Heavy Metal (Primarily NWOBHM, Doom and Thrash), Deathrock, among other similar genres. I listen to bands like AFI, Black Flag, The Cure, The Clash, Darkest Hour, Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, Depeche Mode, Black Sabbath, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Hatebreed, Bad Brains, and anything having to do with The Misfits (ask about my collection).

I like to watch movies like Grindhouse, Rocky Horror, Nightmare Before Xmas, Pulp Fiction, Night of The Living Dead (or any other Zombie movie, really), Any featured on MST3K and just about anything put out by John Waters, Ed Wood, Something Weird, Troma, or featured on a Horror Host program (my favorite is Count Gore DeVol's Creature Feature).

I collect out of production video game systems (I currently have the following: an Atari 2600, two Nintendo Entertainment Systems and one Famicom, a Super NES, an N64, a Sega Genesis (aka Sega Mega Drive), a PlayStation, and a PS 2. I am currently looking around for or have plans to purchase the following systems: a Mattel Intellivision, a ColecoVision, an Atari 7800, a Sega Dreamcast, a Gamecube, and an X-Box, just to name a few. If you have any of these systems, or games for systems I already have, in your basement or attic and want to make some room in there, let me know. We just might be able to work something out.

I don't drink alcohol or do drugs, and I haven't in over a decade. I don't begrudge anyone who does drink, and tend to enjoy the company of folks who drink responsably (or even get a little drunk), as well as enjoy bar culture. I do enjoy drinks like Lo-Carb Monster (my favorite energy drink on the market), Sugar Free or Zero Carb Rockstar, V8 or Virgin Mary's (aka Bloody Shame's), Red/Black/Dead Eye's, Green Tea Sodas such as Cricket Cola (I prefer the diet, since they use Splenda) and Steaz, and "Fresh Brewed, Unsweetend Iced Tea, Lemon & Lime, No Ice". Also, I don't smoke but I do have a habit of standing downwind of cigarette smokers. I can't/don't eat Beef or Pork, but I can and do eat pretty much anything that flies or swims. I may someday become a vegatarian again, but that day is not today.

I identify as a Buddhist, most closely in the Theravadan tradition. I attend the DC Rebel Dharma group on Monday nights in Dupont Circle. I am currently digging on the teachings of folks like Noah Levine, Brad Warner, Kevin Griffin, Gil Fronsdal, and Stephen Batchelor. I could also easily identify as a Unitarian Universalist or Secular Humanist.

I love my wife heleneotroy.

You can also find me online at MySpace, RenSpace, 12 Step Space, and Inked Nation.

I think that just about covers it for now.
